The Haute Chaîne, its peak and the Crêt de la Neige (altitude: 1,720 metres) are a paradise for outdoor activities, especially hiking, and have been classified as a natural reserve since 1993. This is due to the significant amount of wildlife and plant species, with 950 listed flowering plants, 10 of which are nationally protected. There are 209 species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, including the Western capercaillie, the golden eagle and the lynx.

Let yourself be tempted by a walk over the Haute Chaîne and its summits, and climb to the peak of the Crêt de la Neige and its neighbour, the Reculet. In a green landscape, where pine trees and spruces dominate the forest, there are many mountain huts for hikers to stay in. And if you are quiet, you’re sure to encounter a Chamois goat or a Western capercaillie.

In winter, the greenery is replaced by crisp white snow, to the delight of snowshoe hiking and cross-country skiing enthusiasts.
