20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
This play for actors and puppets has delighted audiences and awards alike since its premiere in 2015. It has to be said that it's quite an adventure: how do you adapt for the stage Jules Verne's famous novel, which has inspired so many readers, children and adults alike, since its publication in 1869? And how to stage the disturbing and fabulous voyage of its characters, the three shipwrecked men captured by Captain Nemo, a mysterious inventor who travels the seabed in the Nautilus, a strange submarine so far ahead of the technology of its time that it is science fiction?
Valérie Lesort and Christian Hecq, both directors, writers and actors, took up this challenge brilliantly two years ago with Gulliver's Journey.
Funny, poetic, full of surprises and twists, the scenes unfold while preserving the nocturnal and fantastic atmosphere of the novel. With its magical machines and astonishing sea creatures, this show has a certain childhood flavour that is a joy to behold.
