GR 5 from Foncine-le-Haut to Les Rousses

-

The GR5 is one of the most famous GRs in France. It crosses the 3 massifs of the Vosges, Jura and Alps and links Wissembourg (Alsace) to Menton (Alpes Maritimes) in 1,200 km. The GR5 is also one of the most demanding, requiring a great deal of training and impeccable physical condition.

In the Jura mountains, it crosses the Haut-Doubs and a small part of the Haut-Jura between Sochaux and the Franco-Swiss summit of La Dôle (1677 m). In the Jura department, the GR5 runs for just 25km from the Roche Bernard lookout point, offering breathtaking views of the 2 lakes of Bellefontaine and Les Mortes, before crossing the Risoux forest to reach the Les Rousses resort.

Hikers will then cross the border into Switzerland and head around La Dôle to reach Lake Geneva. A short diversions to the summit of La Dôle is highly recommended for a 180° view of the Alps! Breathtaking!
