The reculée of Baume-les-Messieurs

-

From your departure in the village of Baume-les-Messieurs to your arrival at the top of the cliffs, this route will take you to discover the interaction of water and limestone, two major elements in the formation of the Jura mountains, and in this particular case the reculées. This route will also allow you to visit the abbey of Baume-les-Messieurs, the cradle of Cluny, to admire the reculée from the viewpoints and to marvel at the tufa waterfall, the majestic cliffs and the impressive cave.

At "Abbaye de Baume", cross the bridge over the Seille and take the road to the left. After "Les Échelles de Sermus (bas)", reach the "Chapelle Saint-Roch" and turn right. The path runs along the Dard valley.

At "Grottes de Baume", reach the entrance of the caves by the stairs next to the post, then take the path on the left. At the "Échelles de Crançot", climb the stairs and reach the "Belvédère des Roches" (viewpoint over the reculée).

Take the road to the left for 200 m and the forest track to the left for 2.6 km. At "Saint Aldegrin", continue north, then turn left and reach "Bois de Suchot".

> On the left, access to the "Croix de Suchot" (viewpoint on the reculée).

Turn right. At "Vieux Monts", take the D70 to the left for 100 m, then go down the path on the left into the forest. Walk along the abbey and return to the car park.
