The Fort des Rousses

With your back to the Les Rousses Tourist Office, head towards Les Rousses Centre. To do this, cross the RN5 carefully and follow it on the right. At Les Rousses Centre, turn left towards Le Tremplin.

At the ski jump, follow the yellow marked path on the left which overlooks the moat of the Fort des Rousses. Go down the slope to reach the Fort des Rousses post. Follow the direction of the Glacis by crossing the small road and continuing along the moat of the Fort.

At the Glacis, take the small path that goes down to the right towards the moat of the Fort in the direction of the Poterne, then walk along the ramparts on the left towards La Sentinelle.

At the Commandos crossroads, take the path that goes down on the left towards Sous le Fort. At this crossroads, follow Les Entrepreneurs on the right.

At Les Entrepreneurs, follow the GR (red/white) which gradually goes up on the right towards Porte de France. The route leads to a small tarmac road, follow it to the right for a few steps and then climb to the left over the hillock. The route again overlooks the moat of the Fort and then returns to the Tremplin before descending to the village centre of Les Rousses.

On your return to the Les Rousses Tourist Office, continue your walk by following the Montée de l'Opticien (famous passage of the "Transjurassienne" cross-country ski race) then the Brioland. This climb is a little steep but does not last long. At the top, linger at the old redoubt, part of the fortified defence system of Les Rousses. You can find out more about these remains by reading the interpretation panels installed there. Retrace your steps to find the path and turn left.

When you reach Brioland, you come to a small road, follow it to the right in the direction of Chez le Queton (yellow markings). The road quickly becomes a path and then a tarmac road again.

At Chez le Queton, turn right to take the Route Royale which will take you back to the Les Rousses Tourist Office.
