Tour des Pertes de l'Ain

-

The geological curiosity of the pertes de l'Ain is on the agenda for this fairly easy hike, which is generally a family favourite. The Tour des Pertes de l'Ain offers hikers a cascade of pleasures. It starts from the Chamois car park, near Bourg-de-Sirod, and heads towards the "Chambre d'eau", with views over the Ain and the valley. A path overlooks the river. Arrive at the chapel.

It was part of the fortified village of Richebourg, of which only a few remains of houses remain, abandoned around 1940. Then discover the ruins of Château Villain, the most powerful of medieval fortresses. After that, the walker is in for a real treat: dam, Tufs fountain, footbridge and magnificent view of the very narrow gorges of the Ain, old forges, before returning to the starting point. It's all worth doing with your eyes wide open. You might even come across some chamois...
