Source of the Ain and waterfall of the Moulin du Saut

-

Back to basics in a splendid setting, a stone's throw from the medieval town of Nozeroy. The Vauclusian-style spring is a geological curiosity.

At the "Parking du Moulin du Saut" sign, turn right onto the path leading to the "Moulin du Saut".

From the ruins of the mill (which has given way to a small EDF hydroelectric power station), take the forest track. Leave the track to the right, then emerge into the clearing and continue along the white track. At the end of the white path, take the narrow, winding path. It leads to the top of the spring. Take the path down to the "Source de l'Ain".

Reach the spring on the right (located at the foot of a limestone hemicycle), then retrace your steps. Continue straight ahead in the valley along the small road. It runs alongside the river and leads to the "Les Maillys" signpost. Access to the Saut des Maillys on the right, 200 m away (10 mins) (a small, landscaped curiosity).

Take the first forest path on the right (signposted "Le Moulinet"). It runs alongside the river before crossing it. Climb the path on the other bank to reach "Le Moulinet".

Go down to the right (signposted "Doye") to the ruins of the Moulinet mill, on the Combe-Sandon stream. Continue along the path up the stream, then climb right onto the plateau. Continue along the road and turn right across Doye.

At the end of the village, at the "Doye" sign, follow the narrow road down into the valley. Halfway down the slope, turn right down the old track, cross the Serpentine and return to the car park.
