- total immersion in the painter's world with a night in his home town - the idyllic setting of Ornans and its surroundings - the wild nature of the Loue valley.
In Ornans, the birthplace of the painter Gustave Courbet, a weekend of exceptional moments awaits you.
Start your stay with a visit to the Courbet Museum in the heart of the town of Ornans. The visit evokes, from Ornans to Paris, the career of the local artist, the aesthetic breakthrough he made, the artistic circles he frequented and his
political commitment.
The next day, follow in the footsteps of the artist by following "Les sentiers de Courbet", seven itineraries to discover the sites he painted and immerse yourself in his landscapes, between monumental springs, cliffs, gorges and forests that tell stories. Bathed by the waters of the Loue, which flows down from its monumental source 20 km upstream, the town is a little jewel just a stone's throw from the Comtois capital, Besançon.
With its typical houses on the water and its small streets where a good number of artists and craftsmen have settled in the heart of the centre of the art trades, Ornans has plenty to inspire you.
NOT TO BE MISSED: Exhibition "Delacroix invites himself to Courbet's house".
The Eugène-Delacroix national museum, which is part of the Louvre public institution, will close for renovation in autumn 2023. During this period, a large selection of its collection will be presented at the Musée Départemental Gustave Courbet in Ornans from 23 October 2023 to 5 February 2024.
