Loop 18: South Revermont and Orgelet region

-

The wine-growing villages of the Sud-Revermont, the climb to the Orgelet plateau, the descent to the plain. This itinerary, full of hollows and bumps, offers remarkable views of Burgundy.
Orbagna, in the heart of the Sud-Revermont vineyard, has a tower of flavours, a place where history, art and vines meet. The route, with its rich heritage, leads to Vercia, a small village known for its winter illuminations, and then on to Vincelles and Grusse, winegrowing villages with typical houses. From there, it is necessary to climb for 6km the slopes of one of the most beautiful remote areas of the Jura to Saint-Laurent la Roche (a remarkable 250m climb) but the effort is well rewarded. Overlooking the village, a belvedere offers an exceptional view of the Bresse region as far as the Burgundy mountains.
The itinerary then leads to Bornay before making a right angle to reach Orgelet, a town of character in Burgundy Franche-Comté, the birthplace of Cadet Rousselle, which still preserves the ruins of a 12th century castle whose superb medieval floor tiles are on display in Notre Dame church (13th century). From Orgelet, the route reaches the village of Nancuise and descends towards the plain via Pimorin, Cressia, dominated by its 14th century castle, and Augisey before reaching Orbagna.
