Loop 26: The outskirts and castles of the South Revermont

-

Hillsides, secluded areas, cliffs, views over Burgundy, castles, churches, wine-growing villages... This easy 42.2km circuit takes in the most beautiful sites of the Sud-Revermont, a region to discover.
The Sud-Revermont is a little paradise. A haven of tranquillity and good living, a land of tradition, it offers a surprising range of landscapes jealously guarded from prying eyes. Firstly, the vineyards with Orbagna and the Tour des Saveurs where you can taste all the Jura wines produced by the local winegrowers, mineral, fruity or rounder wines. The vineyards stretch along the slopes of the Revermont and in the combe of Rotalier, a cute winegrowing village, before the Côte Chaude where the road rises to the château de Rosay. Here the panorama over the Burgundy plain is breathtaking (but there will be others...). Continue through the small hamlet of Lamarre to the castle of Chevreau, currently being restored by youth work camps, through forests and valleys. Here again the view is magnificent. Climb to Chatel, the community of the Sisters of the Covenant, a magical balcony overlooking the immensity of the plain. Further on, the Chanelet viewpoint dominates the village and the Gizia retreat like a large gash in the Revermont. Return via Beaufort, bypassing Maynal, another winegrowing village with its church and fortified bell tower.
