Loop 4: From the crosses to the Val d'Ognon

-

Mysterious crosses, cute vineyards, forests of legends, castles and typical villages, languid river... This 31.5km circuit is a dessert to be savoured with the family!
Nestling between Mont Guérin and the Serre massif, Moissey is full of surprises with a 16th century castle, an oratory, a fountain and... an arkose cross. This is not the only one, there are 43 of them in the villages and the Serre forest massif, the only granite promontory in the Jura. They are still as enigmatic as ever and have fuelled legends for centuries. A place of legend, again, with the spring and the Ermitage cave built on two levels, partly by nature, partly by man, from which the water gushes out. Change of scenery with the village of Offlanges and its amazing vineyard, still on the slopes of the Serre massif, but so far from the Côtes du Jura! The vines stretch out on the hillside.
After the villages of Thervay and Malans, on a spur overlooking the Ognon, the Petite Cité Comtoise de Caractère of Pesmes is full of monuments and listed buildings: castles, medieval walls, royal house, priory, church, crosses... Everything is to be discovered in this village which offers a magnificent view of the Val d'Ognon. Continue through my castles of Mutigney and Montmirey-la-ville - whereas in Montmirey-le-château, only ruins remain - before reaching Moissey.
