La Grande traversée du Jura à VTT - GTJ à VTT

-

Depending on your riding style and the time you have available, come and discover the extraordinary possibilities offered by the Jura massif. The Grande traversée du Jura remains faithful to the route approved by the mountain bike sites in 1992, making the GTJ the first major French mountain bike crossing between Mandeure, in the Doubs, and Culoz, in the Ain, through the incredible diversity of the Jura Mountains.

The northern part of the route involves a fairly long climb to the Maîche plateau, before descending to the banks of the Doubs on a trail that is as beautiful as it is technical.
The route through the Doubs Horloger Regional Nature Park is dotted with beautiful Comtois farmhouses as far as Pontarlier.

The majestic Fort de Joux marks the entrance to the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park. Soon the roof of the département, the Mont d'Or, with its grandiose panorama of the Alps, comes into view.
While you're in Métabief, try out the enduro and free-ride trails at this mountain-biking mecca.
Chapelle-des-Bois marks the southern end of the Doubs département. Take a break along Lac des Mortes and Lac de Bellefontaine, bordered by a magnificent peat bog, before pedalling into the Jura département.

After the lively resort of Les Rousses, the peace and nature of the magnificent Hautes Combes take over. Here, the meadows and sumptuous spruce and fir forests are home to rare wildlife... be careful, you're in the land of the capercaillie and the boreal lynx! La Pesse marks the end of the Jura département and the Borne au Lion rewards hikers with a magnificent view of the Monts Jura and the Crêt de Chalam.

The first few kilometres in the Ain department descend to Giron before reaching Saint-Germain-de-Joux to climb up to the Retord plateau.

It may take a bit of effort to reach the plateau, but what a reward these wide-open spaces and the peace and quiet are. The end of the journey will be a sporting one, as you pass through Arvière and the mythical and famous Grand Colombier pass.

As a partner of the GTJ, BOSCH will be providing charging points for GTJ cyclists in 10 towns along the GTJ cycle routes!

TRY GRAVEL BIKING ON THE GTJ

The Gravel bike, a cross between a road bike and a mountain bike, enables cyclists to leave the main roads and take to the gravel tracks, dirt tracks or other paths to explore the great outdoors. From spring 2024, the Grandes Traversées du Jura itinerary will include a 380-km route suitable for Gravel bikers eager to leave the beaten track. A great place to rent out Gravel bikes and get expert advice from a team of professionals is the new BC Shop and café where you’ll also find charging terminals.
