The saltworks route

-

This 38km cycle route, which alternates between its own site and a shared road, starts from EuroVelo 6 in Ranchot and begins by crossing the Chaux forest, France's 2nd largest state-owned forest, along the RD31. The trees, over a hundred years old and the inspiration for many of the tales and legends of the Franche-Comté region, add a touch of freshness and a slightly fantastical atmosphere to your journey. The Voie des Salines then continues into the neighbouring Doubs department, to Arc-et-Senans and its Saline Royale, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This model of semi-circular architecture was designed and built by the visionary architect Claude-Nicolas LEDOUX in 1779. The cycle route then follows the Loue valley in the Val d'Amour to reach the small village of Port Lesney, an ancient medieval town set on the Loue river. Cyclists will soon reach Mouchard, the famous woodworking town renowned for its Lycée des Compagnons du devoir. Finally, the green route ends in Salins-les-Bains, one of the two spa towns in the Jura, where a visit to the Grande Saline, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a must.
However, the Voie des Salines has not yet been completed, particularly between Pagnoz and Marnoz, where you will pass along small white roads and paths. Please take extra care, especially with your family.

All the Greenways are reserved for the exclusive use of pedestrians and are strictly forbidden to motorised vehicles. (Except for those with exceptional rights)
