The PLM Marigny - Champagnole line

-

In the Pays des Lacs, the PLM route follows the old railway line operated by the PLM company (Paris, Lyon, Méditerranée) until the middle of the 20th century. Wild and natural, it is now being restored as a cycle route. 80% completed, it will eventually link Lons-le-Saunier to Champagnole. To date, only the section between Chatillon and Marigny has not been opened to traffic, and several routes across the Ain are still under study.

Following on from the Voie PLM Perrigny - Chatillon, this second section of the Voie PLM between Marigny and Champagnole is made entirely of asphalt. It provides cyclists with a link between Lac de Chalain, the largest natural lake in the Jura and a key venue for a wide range of outdoor activities (swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, microlighting, adventure courses, mountain biking, hiking, etc.) and the department's 4th largest town, Champagnole.

In the valley of the River Ain, the Voie PLM winds its way through flower-filled meadows, pastures where herds of Montbéliardes cows graze, the forests of the first plateau and the pretty villages of the Pays des Lacs. Ideal for discovering the Pays des Lacs by bike, the Voie PLM follows the Ain and Angillon rivers from the first hills of the Côte de l'Heute, offering great views of the surrounding valleys such as Mont Rivel and the Bute de Montsogeon.
