This route takes in all sorts of water features, some more remarkable than others.
It starts at Foncine-le-Bas, heading towards the Lac-des-Rouges-Truites and Fort-du-Plasne. Along the way, the route takes in a succession of points of interest, starting with the Lac des Rouges-Truites and its wetlands, followed by the Lac à la Dame. Also known as Lac de Foncine, its surface area has shrunk to 3.8 hectares. It is a private natural lake near the hamlet of Grange à la Dame. It is surrounded by meadows and marshland and is fed by rainfall and run-off from the neighbouring hillsides and by the Fontaine Noire spring. Its waters flow into the Saine via the Senge.
At Planches-en-Montagne, head towards Foncine-le-Bas via the Saine gorges. Along the way, admire the Bief de la Ruine waterfall. It is 350 metres long and drops 110 metres. This is a succession of waterfalls whose water comes from an underground lake and eventually flows into the Saine.
Nearby is the cascade de la Langouette, a much more famous "canyon" in the Jura, well worth a visit.
