By Robert PROUDHON, Honorary Mayor of Chasnans.
Philosopher, economist, politician, journalist, etc. Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, the only reformer of popular origin, is a key figure in 19th century social thought. Denouncing the social ravages of the industrial revolution (capitalism) and the absolutism of political power (the State) and ideology (religion), Proudhon wanted to achieve a just and free society, neither capitalist nor communist, by setting up mutualist economic and federalist political organisations.
