Conference "A Jura man in Antarctica" by Nicolas Pernin, wintering in 2022 and in charge of the AWACA scientific raid for the French Polar Institute.
Nicolas Pernin, from Champagnole, wintered in Adélie in 2022. He works at the French Polar Institute Paul-Émile Victor and now coordinates the AWACA Antarctic scientific raid project.
He will be talking to us about his career, his experiences in the field and the work of the French Polar Institute. In particular, he will tell us how a 2-month scientific raid in Antarctica is organised and experienced, where a synergy must be found between technology and science.
This extraordinary scientific project, called AWACA (Atmospheric Water Cycle over Antarctica: past, present & future), focuses on understanding the atmospheric water cycle in Antarctica through a campaign of unprecedented measurements that will help to determine future changes in sea levels.
