An introduction to making mugi or nori-urushi, a natural, edible vegetable glue, the basis of the Japanese craft of kintsugi. The aim is to go through one stage of this art (of which there are at least 5) by making your own glue and assembling a broken piece of ceramic. Bring your own, as long as it's glazed and doesn't have too many puzzle pieces.
Ages 16 and over.
All the materials needed to make and apply the glue are provided. Gloves are available for handling urushi lacquer, which can be irritating. Bring an old long-sleeved T-shirt and a rag to spare. Bring a broken ceramic piece (glazed) with a cardboard box to hold it afterwards for the drying process. A photo of your piece can be sent to me before the workshop for validation.
