Enjambement / Fabien Drubigny - Philippe Ramette - Marc Domage

-

Marc Domage is a photographer specialising in art, live performance and architecture. Since 2019, he has been bringing our projects to life.

Philippe Ramette and Marc have always been friends. Philippe's surreal, humorous and poetic work occupied my imagination long before I met Marc. Marc is the one who photographs Philippe's work.

Last March, the Beeb asked me to exhibit the office's work. Honoured, but concerned about the seriousness and boredom that the undertaking might suggest, I stepped over the request and offered to present Philippe Ramette's point of view on a selection of our projects. Marc Domage's photography would be the natural medium.

Philippe and Marc lent themselves to the game, with generosity and humour. At once classic and iconoclastic, their proposal blows up, with few means and a disconcerting naturalness, the codes of Euclidean space that usually form the basis of architectural practice. Upside, downside; sculpture, person; fixity, movement... Here, nothing is certain and nothing really makes sense, and yet everything ends up finding its place. The virtue of relativism.

By questioning the meaning of our buildings, Philippe and Marc's poetic, deadpan licence paradoxically affirms their architectural value. Like a eulogy to architecture.
