Expanding the built environment" exhibition
What would Émile Fanjat have drawn if he had been asked to propose extensions to the houses designed in 1925 for the Cité-jardin Jean Jaurès in Besançon?
This is the question posed to third-year students at the Nancy School of Architecture, as part of the "20th Century Architecture: Heritage Projects" project workshop, at the request of their teacher Nicolas Beyret, a heritage architect.
Using plans, sections, sketches and models, the students proposed inventive architectural solutions to continue Fanjat's work. Extensions, elevations, thermal renovations - the projects presented are invitations or proposals made to the residents to respond to new uses and constraints in keeping with the times. Each type of building has been studied, from T1 to T6, including the commercial house or the vast building of the old school.
The Cité, which is often presented as an eco-district before its time, has been given a new lease of life through these reflections. It is a fitting and perfect complement to the architectural, urban and landscape recommendations booklet, commissioned by the City of Besançon and funded by the Regional Department of Cultural Affairs, which will be distributed during the festive evening organised by the Maison de l'architecture de Franche-Comté at the Cité-jardin Jean Jaurès.
