Julien Corten exhibition: metal and glass creations
He uses steel as well as brass, stainless steel, copper and aluminium. He offers us molten metal sculptures for the
Julien Corten works with volumes, reconstituted sheet steel, diverted profiles and even drops of molten metal.
The different volumes are created by the shape that the drops of molten metal create when dropped side by side.
Different models are used. For example, the formation of a sculpture in clay or plaster, which is then reproduced in metal. The technique of imprinting a face on a person is also used... One day... Maybe yours!
His glass paintings are "painted" with a hammer or grinder.
The impact of the hammer, or the abrasion of the glass, allows the light to reflect in multiple directions, giving relief and depth to the subject.
"One too many hammer blows and it's a disaster.
A challenge that adds even more flavour to the final result.
Breaking in order to build, chiaroscuro, breaking in order to unify are concepts that require a quest for the right balance.
This is what Julien Corten seems to be trying to share with us in his unique and original works.
