Exhibition: "From matter to work". When local natural resources are transformed into handcrafted creations
EXHIBITION: From matter to work. When local resources become craft creations
From 5 April to 31 October 2025
at the Atelier des savoir-faire, Ravilloles.
How does a raw material become a work of art?
This exhibition explores the relationship between crafts, nature and innovation, and highlights the talent of the craftspeople who transform local resources. Through the eyes of 18 craftspeople, artists and training centres from all over France, this exhibition celebrates know-how and creativity.
A journey to the heart of local materials
Each of the works on display embodies an artistic vision in which ancestral know-how meets modern techniques.
The chessboards made from wood from the Jurassie region demonstrate a mastery of sculpture, while the glass works from Lorraine play with transparency and light, reinventing an ancestral heritage. In this exhibition, a chandelier made from Bresse chicken feathers, combining lightness and creative daring, sits alongside sculptures in Vosges stoneware, crafted with remarkable precision. Works made from fish leather illustrate an inventive art of re-use, while woven paintings showcase the finesse of textile work.
Some works bear the mark of time and nature, like the petrifying fountains of the Massif Central, where water and limestone intertwine to shape the stone over the centuries. Similarly, the cut amethyst from Auvergne and the plant elements incorporated into the creations reveal the harmony between the craftsman and nature.
The exhibition also highlights rare techniques, such as terrazzo in Jura marble stone, a fusion of sculpted fragments whose geometric patterns and colours create a veritable visual poetry. Each piece embodies meticulous craftsmanship, a deep respect for materials and a quest for timeless beauty.
An exhibition of innovation and traditional craftsmanship
"De la matière à l'œuvre" celebrates the creativity of craftsmen who, between respect for tradition and the search for new expressions, fashion exceptional objects. This exhibition pays tribute to craftsmanship in all its forms, celebrating the richness and diversity of natural materials, but also excellence. A journey at the crossroads of history, innovation and artistic sensibility.
