Suitcases" exhibition
To mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, the Musée de la Résistance et de la Déportation in Besançon is unveiling a new temporary exhibition focusing on an everyday object: the suitcase.
Synonymous with escape, travel or holidays, the suitcase has many meanings and illustrates other realities, such as displacement or the urgent need to leave many parts of the world without returning.
In the context of the Second World War, the suitcase evokes many realities that are part of our collective memory. The exile of the Spanish Republicans, the exodus, the struggle of the Resistance, the extermination of the Jews, repatriation after the Liberation, and many others. Drawing on its own collections and numerous loans, the museum aims to explore the object and its uses.
As a museum of history and a civic tool, the Musée de la Résistance et de la Déportation in Besançon continues to reflect on history, the traces that remain today and the questions they raise in our contemporary world.
