Besançon International Music Festival: "O Sacrum Convivum

As part of the Besançon International Music Festival, which runs from 12 to 27 September 2025, a number of regional concerts are being organised, including one by Ensemble la Sportelle: O Sacrum Convivium.

Created in 2017, Ensemble la Sportelle is an ambassador for the very special spirit of Rocamadour, which is called upon to serve the sacred repertoire. Bringing together three major composers - Duruflé, Poulenc and Messiaen - this concert, in which the influence of Gregorian chant is predominant, echoes their magnificent works with lesser-known works by Miškinis, Vaughan Williams and Villette. English conductor Nigel Short, who thrilled festival-goers in 2023 and 2024, will take audiences on an extraordinary journey through the purity of sound chiselled by the great French masters of the 20th century, particularly in Poulenc's heart-stopping Messe en sol.
