Jordi Savall & the Concert of Nations
The great Catalan violinist, choral conductor and orchestra leader Jordi Savall is back at the Saline Royale after seven years in artistic residence from 2016 to 2022. He will conduct the Concert des Nations for an exceptional programme celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Saline Royale d'Arc-et-Senans.
A master of Baroque music, Jordi Savall will take you back to the time of Claude-Nicolas Ledoux, architect of the Royal Saltworks. The conductor and his musicians will perform Iphigénie en Aulide and the ballets and suites Semiramis and Don Juan by Christoph Willibald Gluck.
These works mark a decisive moment in the history of opera and dance, and are the protagonists of the renaissance of Gluck's innovation in the 18th century. At the time, Europe was undergoing a great transformation. Artists like Gluck were exploring new ways of fusing music and drama. Don Juan and Semiramis are examples of this artistic renaissance, in which music was used to reinforce the narrative and give life to a new scenic dimension.
