About the author:
Born in Guadeloupe in 1947, Daniel Maximin is a writer. After studying at the Sorbonne, he became a literature professor. From 1980 to 1989, he was literary director at Présence Africaine and producer of the programme Antipodes on France Culture. In 1989, he became regional director of cultural affairs for Guadeloupe. In 1998, he organised the national celebration of the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery, and was master of ceremonies at Aimé Césaire's funeral in 2008.

A few words about his latest novel:
Paris, 1942. Seven young resistance fighters, including Tony Bloncourt, a Guadeloupean student of Haitian origin, are sentenced to death by a German military court. On Monday 9 March, the day of the execution, the five protagonists of Salves de Blues move heaven and earth to obtain a pardon for the condemned. Among them were Valéry Bergopsom, a musician and jazz teacher, and his pupils Aurélia and Joseph, both secondary school students in the Resistance.
"Daniel Maximin's novel deserves to be made into a film. (Jérôme Garcin, Le Nouvel Obs)
