An intimate encounter with the collections of the Petit Palais
For winter 2026, the Musée Courbet is innovating with "Rencontre intime", a new museum experience inviting visitors to discover art in a different way. Conceived as a sensitive approach, this first edition features a deliberately intimate selection of works on loan from the Petit Palais - Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris, a partner in this original project.
"Intimate Encounters" features family portraits of artists from the collections of the Petit Palais, including the portraits of Juliette and Régis Courbet painted by Gustave Courbet, on exceptional loan. This collaboration marks the launch of an ambitious partnership that will continue in 2027 with the summer exhibition "Juliette Courbet. À l'ombre de Gustave", organised to mark the 150th anniversary of the artist's death.
With "Rencontre intime", the Musée Courbet is renewing its winter exhibitions by offering a rethought visitor experience, centred on the intimate relationship between the visitor and the work. Around ten works are presented, accompanied by sensory devices, enhanced mediation, a space dedicated to contemplation and a playful, intergenerational and inclusive space. The aim is to recreate a sense of connection, foster emotion and encourage an in-depth encounter with the works.
with the works of art.
True to its identity as a cultural institution of excellence in a rural setting, the Musée Courbet is asserting its vocation as a unifying, accessible and sensitive place, deeply rooted in its territory. "Rencontre intime" is for everyone, offering an experience that is both personal and collective, where each visitor becomes an active participant in his or her own discovery.
