Salins and its religious heritage
Conference
From the Middle Ages onwards, the prosperity of the town of Salins encouraged the construction of religious buildings. In addition to the four collegiate and parish churches, various priories and monasteries were founded in the town (Cordeliers convent) or outside the walls (Goailles abbey). In the 17th century, a dozen or so male and female congregations founded establishments here to defend the Catholic faith and provide prayer, contemplation, preaching and teaching. The omnipresence of religion in the area has resulted in a rich heritage, with contemporary examples dotted around the region: chapels, oratories, mission crosses, canon houses, etc.
