Guided tours of the Apothecary's shop
The apothecary remains as it was in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It is certainly one of the largest apothecaries in the Jura, and indeed in Franche-Comté.
It boasts magnificent wood panelling by a Saint-Amour cabinetmaker, trompe-l'œil decoration, a medallion decorated with flowers and medicinal plants, and a floor of Saint-Amour marble.
Take a guided tour of this surprising place, with its herbal furniture and its collection of over 300 jars from different periods (16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries), including two mysterious jars from the 16th century.
You'll be able to see a wide variety of containers and understand how they were used, including theriac jars, kidney jars, pill boxes, cannon jars and glass jars, as well as instruments for measuring and preparing remedies.
The small room where patients were treated contains furniture dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, including a remarkable herbalist's cabinet and a large collection of pewter crockery.
Immerse yourself in the history and traditions of the hospitals of Saint-Amour and the workings of an apothecary.
