Visites guidées de l'atelier de Courbet

-

Following a vast restoration campaign that began in 2019, Gustave Courbet's studio in Ornans, the site of the Courbet Centre, is now open to the public.
Located in the heart of "[his] country", between river and cliffs, this new space built in 1860 was imagined by the artist as an ideal studio. A place of creation, in which the painter conceived his last major works, notably L'Hallali du cerf (Musée des Beaux-Arts et d'Archéologie, Besançon), Courbet's country studio was also a place of exchange and sociability where he received his most fervent admirers, such as the art critic Castagnary. Gustave Courbet shaped this place in his own image. This place still bears the presence of the Master of Ornans on its walls. You will discover the only decoration painted by the artist: two exceptional murals, representing landscapes, as well as a sky dotted with swallows.
Discover Gustave Courbet's work space, a site steeped in history, listed as a Historic Monument, and its evolution over time: from the painter's creation site to its transformation by his sister Juliette into the first Courbet Museum.
