NATHALIE PERNETTE

Imagined as a place of transformation and elevation, this initiatory experience explores the connection between the soul and the muscular tissues of six dancers. An artistic and liberating prayer to calm the explosive anger of the world, or at least to appease us.

Wakan means 'sacred' in the language of the Lakota, a people native to North America. Interested in the place of dance in our cultures and our lives, dancer and choreographer Nathalie Pernette has imagined a prayer danced in spaces charged with spirituality. She has studied all the world's sacred dances, identifying material common to all cultures: the art of the curve and convolutions, learned gestures, relationships to jumping and falling, to Earth and Heaven, tremors... Here is the result of his fascinating quest: a time out of time, where cymbals and gongs, haunting rhythms or frantic pulsations, initiatory songs and languages, incantatory words all come together. Whether it's the art of leaping, springing or balancing, extreme suppleness or uncommon speed, the team will be attempting to find the prowess, the extraordinary and the extreme in every dancer.

For ages 10 and up.
This show is an in-house creation and new for the 24-25 season.
