The adventure of the GR® 59 will start you on one of the summits of the Southern Vosges: the Ballon d'Alsace. This summit is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park, where you can admire the statue of Joan of Arc, a prancing horse, and the sculpture of "L'Homme projeté" ("Projected Man"). As you walk through the undergrowth, you'll be amazed by nature at every step.
Between the Vosges massif and the Jura massif, there will be plenty of opportunities to discover our heritage and appreciate the landscape.
Among the sites you can admire are the Chapelle de Ronchamp and the Besançon citadel, one of the city's landmarks. Designed by Vauban, it overlooks the ancient Vesontio.
Further afield, in the Jura, in Arc-et-Senans to be precise, the Saline Royale opens its doors to you. The Grande Saline at Salins-les-Bains does the same.
You'll also pass through some magnificent villages with unique histories, such as Arbois, with its wine and Louis Pasteur's house, Château-Chalon and its title of most beautiful village in France, as well as its yellow wine. Then there's Baume-les-Messieurs and its imperial abbey, and Lons-le-Saunier, the capital of the Jura department.
The GR® 59 adventure is waiting for you!
