Mount Rivel

-

Discover the natural, built and human heritage of Mont Rivel (part of which is a listed site), and enjoy the many viewpoints.

From the "Parking de la Cimenterie", follow the path, climb the steps, cross the bridge over the N5 and go up the road. At "Burgille", go through the gate and up the road. At the sign for "Sur Burgille", continue up the winding road. After "Sous la Carrière", reach the viewpoint (view of Champagnole). Continue along the winding road.

At "Ferme du Replain", fork left, follow the ridge, then veer right through the boxwood to reach "Sur le Chêne". The oldest oak tree on the site (over 200 years old) is on the left, 250 m further on.

Follow the ridge, pass under the power line, turn left and reach, at a bend, the old castle path (> do not enter, risk of landslide!). After the Trois-Fontaines spring, climb down the hillside to "À la Côte".

Take the forest track (north-west) and descend to "Bois de l'Erculot" (view towards the immense Joux forest and the village of Vannoz).

Follow the track up to the left. Pass "Bois de Bry" under the power line. Turn left (south-east) under the power line, continue along the path and find "Sur Burgille". Follow the same route back to the car park.
