Sentier découverte

The discovery trail is a family walk that takes you through the Magic Forest, where you can read tales whose heroes are the trees, the arboretum, featuring various species from the northern hemisphere, and the quarry site, the former quarry of Baume-les-Dames.

STEP 1: Walk down Rue des Saints and turn right onto Chemin des Fruits just before the railway tunnel.

STEP 2: Walk up the entire street, leaving the tunnel on your left, and take the yellow and blue signposted path leading to a warehouse. Go around the rainwater basin to reach the start of the path on the right.

STEP 3: After crossing the magic forest path, take the road to Fontenotte for 10 m and then take the path that branches off to the right. On this stretch, you'll find markers corresponding to the chapters of the tale in the Magic Forest booklet (available from the Tourist Office).

STEP 4: At the junction, follow the yellow and blue signs for the Arboretum.
Take a detour to the Arboretum, where you'll find a wonderful variety of trees and shrubs from all over the world.

STEP 5: Return to the gravel path and just before the hunting car park, you'll find a beautiful viewpoint over the valley and the heights of Baume-les-Dames. Leave the Chemin de la République and follow a path signposted "Sentier découverte" (discovery trail), which will take you to the quarry site.

STEP 6: A signpost leads you through the quarry site, with numbered markers referring you to the explanations in the booklet.
After walking through the old quarry, take the Rue des Combes back to the town centre.
