The tour of Lake Chalain

Of glacial origin, Lake Chalain is the largest natural lake in the Jura. Its shores have been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011. Indeed, under the marl are the remains of dwellings dating back to 5,000 years BC, tens of thousands of objects have been discovered, as well as several dugout canoes. Lake Chalain is also a major tourist attraction in the Jura. Nestled in its blue lagoon waters, surrounded by cliffs and forest. Throughout the year, it hosts various activities: hiking, fishing, sailing, canoeing...

From the "Sur le Château" lookout, take the path through the undergrowth to the east. Continue along the D90.

> Reculée du lac de Chalain (short variant: easy level, 2 h, 7 km, yellow markings):
Turn left to go down to the car park of the Chalain estate, leave the estate by the road, then follow the path along the lake for 1.6 km. At the fishermen's launch, go up to the left using the right-hand side of the D 39E and join "Sur le Lac".

At "La Charrière", follow the D 90E to the left and enter Fontenu. Before the town hall, take the street on the left and reach the belvedere of Fontenu (view on the lake).

Continue west towards "Chemin Neuf", stay on the plateau and reach "le Châtelet". Continue until you reach "Marigny auberge" then "Place de la croix".

At "La Place de la Croix", continue straight ahead, turn left down the D 147E2, then follow the D 27 to the left. At "La Pergola", take the footpath along the D27 for 1.6 km. Take the road on the left. It leads to the Doucier beach. Continue along the track on the right to pass behind the family and rural houses.

At "Sur le Lac", follow the D 39E to the right for 100 m. Before the bend, take the path on the left in the undergrowth. It goes up to the "Place à Bois" car park.
> Access on the right to the belvedere of Doucier at 850 m (10 min).

Turn left. The path leads to the Sur-la-Roche viewpoint (panorama of the north bank, the white marl, the nautical base and the archaeological site to the west), then to the "La Frate" viewpoint (view of the estate and the former castle of the Counts of Chalon) and then back to the "sur le Château" viewpoint.
