Val de Cusance (via the Saint-Erminfroi cross)
From the heights of the mountains surrounding the Cusacin valley, you can enjoy some very pretty views, particularly from the village of Montivernage and the Saint-Erminfroi cross.
STEP 1: From the church car park in Cusance, follow the small sign for Montivernage. Walk a few paces along the road in the village and take the path on your left after the electricity pole. You will cross the Cusancin.
STEP 2: After the small bridge, turn right and walk alongside the fish farm. Go up the hill and follow the signs (yellow and blue) to a large stone house. You'll see a little Virgin Mary in a niche. You are now in Montivernage.
STEP 3: Go into the village towards Mont Noirot and take the first turning on the left. Follow the path to the 2 sheds. Go straight on at the sheds. Follow the signs to the left (yellow and blue) to enter the pasture. Go through the chicane and along the edge of the wood.
STEP 4: Go through another chicane and enter the forest. Follow the path. On the left, you can leave the path to enjoy a view of the valley.
STEP 5: Return to the footpath and continue along the path down to the road to Lanans (D21).
STEP 6: As you leave the woods, turn right and follow this road for 250 metres. On the left, follow the signs for "Mont Noirot" and follow the tarmac road.
STEP 7: At Mont Noirot, after the farm, turn left. Follow the signs for Mont Millot as far as the road. Cross the road and take the path opposite.
STEP 8: At the crossroads, turn left towards Mont Millot. Go through the hamlet of Mont Millot, then continue on the main road slightly to the right.
STEP 9: Stop in front of the cross, where you'll have a great view of the Cusancin valley. Then start the descent along the path that leads to the church in Cusance.
