Sentier des gabelous

The Gabelou was a customs officer in charge of monitoring salt. Hence the name of this 29.5 km marked trail (yellow markings) for hiking and mountain biking linking Salins les Bains and Arc et Senans.
The Gabelous trail roughly follows the historical route of the brine pipeline, a double wooden pipe that allowed the Royal Salt Works of Arc et Senans to receive the brine extracted from the Salt Works of Salins les Bains.
The explanatory panels are also accessible, at various points, by car.

You will drive along the Loue and Furieuse rivers via the Graduations building, Champagne-sur-Loue, Port-Lesney, Rennes-sur-Loue and Chapelle-sur-Furieuse.
