Saint-Dizier-l'Evêque, which belonged to the county of Ferrette and to Alsace, was the seat of the oldest church in the region, which depended on the abbey of Murbach, near Guebwiller. Pilgrimages for the mentally ill were held in the village for centuries until 1850. This is why the tomb of Bishop Desiderius (Saint Dizier), still visible in the church, is still called the "stone of the insane".
