Distillerie Le Loutron Libre

Since autumn 2023, I've been growing organic aromatic and medicinal plants in Mouthier Haute Pierre, in the Haute Vallée de la Loue, using no pesticides, fungicides or other chemical inputs in my crops.
The gardens are located between the communes of Mouthier Haute Pierre and Lods, in a protected Natura 2000 site that promotes biodiversity and the protection of plant and animal species.
The farm is not mechanised; all the work, from the seed to the soil, distillation and preparation of the products, is done by hand.
The land is home to around 20 different plants, and wild plants are picked in the valley, enabling recipes to be developed using local raw materials.
Loutron Libre's aim is to produce and process raw materials selected for their aromatic qualities, and to offer its customers top-of-the-range finished products made with the utmost care and respect for the traditional distillation of spirits.
A visit to the workshop will give you an insight into the drying room where the plants are brought after harvesting to be preserved. You'll also be able to smell and taste the plants used to make the spirits.
You can also spend a pleasant moment in the distillery, next to the 150-litre copper pot still in which absinthe, aniseed and gin are distilled.
A tasting of the different products will be offered, to help you understand the richness of the recipes, the magic of distillation and all the particularities of the Paysan Distillateur profession.
