In our mid-mountain regions, some houses had a covered apiary called an "Abeiller". This protected the hives from the harsh climate. The idea of setting up a covered apiary for educational purposes was born in Foncine-le-Haut. In March 2011, a number of local amateur and professional beekeepers formed an association.
The Bayard apiary is located in the Natura 2000 area of the Upper Saine Valley. It has around fifteen colonies and a glassed-in educational hive that we invite you to discover, accompanied by a beekeeper.
Guided tours are organised every summer (weather permitting). These end with a honey tasting and sale. Reservations required at the Maison du Tourisme in Foncine-le-Haut.
