It was in 1937, when Edwige's grandparents opened a butcher's and delicatessen on Avenue de la République, that the future "Relais du Fumé" began to win the loyalty of its first customers. Twenty years later, the Javaux family expanded the premises, doubling the sales area. In 1973, Pierre (the son) took over the business: alongside his wife Marie-Thérèse, he gave a new impetus to Maison Javaux, with smoked products that would quickly become the brand's reputation.
In 2013, the next generation (Edwige and her husband Frédéric) took over the running of the Relais du Fumé. The couple are committed to keeping the family spirit alive and perpetuating the tradition of home-made products. The charcuterie is prepared in the traditional way, and smoked with fir and juniper. Over the years, the Relais du Fumé has won a number of awards for its specialities: hams cooked on the bone (bronze medal 2014), dry sausages (gold medal 2015), rillettes comtoises (gold medal 2015), etc.
Today, the shop is still one of the must-visit addresses in the Perle du Jura. Housed in a cosy timber-framed building, the splendid sales area alone is well worth the diversions! In addition to the charcuterie, a hand-picked selection of products (delicatessen, tableware, gifts, etc.) can be put together into attractive personalised boxes. The shop is also renowned for its themed window displays, which attract passers-by all year round, and especially during the festive season.
On your way out, be sure to take a look at the magnificent trompe l'oeil fresco decorating the adjoining alleyway.
