Arboretum Pierre et Serge Antier

-

The Pierre and Serge Antier Arboretum is a special place, where several remarkable stories come together.

First of all, that of the Antier family. Pierre Antier, a passionate horticulturist, created the Arboretum. His son Serge Antier donated it to the town of Lons-le-Saunier in 2000. Behind them lies an entire family nursery tradition, dating back to 1840, when Etienne Grappin founded the first company on the Besançon road. Several generations of men and women, some of whom have lived here, have taken it in turns to enrich and promote this expertise in the service of life.

It is also a page in the history of French horticulture. The Pierre Antier Fils establishment, founded in 1904, has won numerous awards and seen the birth of some original botanical varieties, some of whose roots still live here in the soil of the Arboretum.

A visit to this park means discovering some of the hundreds of specimens listed in the establishment's catalogue (fruit trees, ornamental trees and shrubs, conifers, climbing plants, rosebushes, perennials, etc.), including the twisted hazel, the weeping golden ash, the chestnut and beech trees, the black bamboo, the Canada snag...

The main path is accessible to all, but the small paths leading to the spring and pond are still forest paths, and can be quite steep, so make sure you wear proper footwear, especially in wet weather to avoid slipping!
