His eldest son, Étienne Marie Noé Dutour de Salvert (1845-1909), entered the École Polytechnique in 1865 and was awarded first place in the Marine Engineering Department. He was chief engineer 1st class and director of naval construction in Toulon (5th maritime district). He was made a knight, then an officer of the Legion of Honour, an academy officer and an officer of the Royal Order of Cambodia. He gave his name to the château d'Attignat which he owned. Member of several bibliophile societies and close to Octave Uzanne, his important library was sold at Drouot in five parts between 1909 and 1910. Its most famous occupant: Baroness Dutreuil or the Lady of Attignat (1718-1805).
The family was formed by merchant-tanners from Riesling, and in 1710 Claude Dutour (1674-1747) became a royal secretary.
