Cité franc-Comtoise de Chavannes

A fortified town, it was for centuries the southern extremity of the Holy Roman Empire on the border with the Duchy of Burgundy and Savoy. In the 15th century, it was the centre of attention during the conflict that definitively linked this land to the kingdom of France. After the treaty of 1678, the town was ruined. During the revolution,
Chavannes is attached to the department of Ain.
