René Nicod was mayor of Oyonnax and deputy of the Ain, humanist and man of conviction, he undertook between 1919 and 1950, a significant and lasting change of the city: schools, hospital, colonies, public lighting...
In 1940, in the National Assembly, he was one of the 80 deputies to vote against Pétain's full powers, which led to his arrest and imprisonment until the liberation.
