
Grotte d'Osselle
Europe's largest cave bear necropolis: the Grottes d'Osselle are a must-see site in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. One of the oldest tourist caves in the world, it has been open to visitors since 1504, and is an exceptional place for both its natural beauty and its history.
The cave is 1,200 metres long, making it one of the longest underground tours you can visit in France.
It was in this cave that the first complete cave bear skeleton was discovered in 1826, adding to its worldwide renown.
It has also been visited and studied by such historic figures as Voltaire and Cuvier.
Listed since 1912, the Grottes d'Osselle are an ideal family outing, offering a journey through geological and palaeontological history.
