History of Haut-Bugey
Discover two sites that are unique in Europe, retracing the distant and recent past of Haut-Bugey.
Start your day at Dinoplagne and discover the world's longest titanosaur footprint trail. Your visit begins with a walk from reception to the canopy protecting the tracks at the top of the trail.
A number of themes will be covered: biodiversity, the Jurassic period, the evolution of the continents, etc. These stages will explain the interest and challenges of this site, which has been classified as a Sensitive Natural Area (ENS), and will take you back in time.
At lunchtime, head to the banks of Lake Nantua for a meal at the restaurant, where you can sample the famous quenelle with Nantua sauce.
In the afternoon, let us tell you the story of an astonishing industrial heritage: Les Glacières de Sylans.
The guide will take you back to a time before fridges and freezers and pay tribute to the hard work of the ice-cream makers' employees.
Take a trip back 140 years to one of the world's largest natural ice mining sites. The glaciers of Sylans marketed the ice extracted from Lake Sylans until 1917. Today there are still some impressive remains for you to discover.
