The Grande traversée du Jura à cheval (Great Jura Crossing on horseback) is a linear route (or almost!) along the Jura Mountains. From its northern end at Crosey-le-Petit, in the Doubs department, between Besançon and Montbéliard, the trail joins Arbignieu, in the Ain department, crossing the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park. Almost 500 kilometres in all, with around twenty stages (in gîtes d'étapes, equestrian farms, campsites, etc.) for riders wishing to explore the whole route, which can of course be explored in sections, as hikers wish.
Based on the Jura du Grand Huit and Ain à Cheval networks, this GTJ on horseback will feature a number of shared routes, escapes and offshoots. It has taken into account all the parameters specific to leisure riding: accommodation adapted to horses, length of the stages, diversity of the areas crossed, etc. So the central part of the route will be accessible all year round, with an "infidelity" to the massif allowing riders to descend to the plateaux and explore the Jura vineyards!
