-

Toussaint Louverture, a former slave and later general, became the hero of Haitian independence. He was imprisoned in the Château de Joux in 1802 on the orders of Napoleon Bonapoarte for opposing the re-establishment of black slavery. During your visit to the Château, you can see Toussaint Louverture's cell, where he died on 7 April 1803. This mythical place attracts many visitors every year to pay tribute to this man, a symbol of the emancipation of peoples.
