Lavoir et source du Prélion

-

This washhouse was built in 1832 near the Prélions spring or Prélion resurgence.

The water from this spring, collected in a fountain, supplied the neighbouring village of Cousance via a canal. In exchange for the use of this water, Cousance had this washhouse built.

The large ashlar arch that marks the entrance is not actually a ribbed vault, but more likely two arches that support each other.

The slate roof is made from naturally cut slabs.

The nearby fountain is unusual in that its roofing deliberately allows water to flow from the sky.

Take the time to stroll through the village and discover the open-air photo exhibition. Renata and Pascal, two photographers from the village, are exhibiting landscape and wildlife photos taken during their outings, mainly in the Jura massif and the Vosges mountains. The photos vary from year to year. This is an original way to discover Digna's heritage and its lovely flowers in summer: the wash-house in the centre, the town hall, the old cheese dairy, views of the Château de Chevreaux and Châtel....

The route is free in the village and accessible all year round.

Tip from the Tourist Office: before heading to Château de Chevreaux, take a nature break at Digna!
